Hey folks,
I've heard from several credible sources that there is already active community transmission of COVID occurring in the DTES, but no one from the HA has substantiated this? Can front-line workers, such as myself, get an update on what is actually happening, or if there are actually confirmed cases of COVID in the community?
Thanks!
Hi Eris,
Thanks for reaching out and for your patience; sorry for the delay!. VCH are closely monitoring the situation in the DTES and working with partners at BC Housing and the City of Vancouver to take measures to protect vulnerable community members. As time has gone on, cases of community transmission of COVID have been documented across the Lower Mainland. We believe community transmission is occurring in all neighbourhoods, including the DTES and downtown core.
We will continue to post updates and additional information to our website: http://www.vch.ca/about-us/news/vancouver-coastal-health-statement-on-coronavirus
BC Housing has produced a good document to support housing providers: https://www.bchousing.org/publications/Covid-19-Info-Bulletin-for-Housing-Providers-March-18th-2020.pdf
And of course, we encourage folks to bring up any questions or concerns at our weekly overdose community of practice call—it’s helpful for us to hear from you.
Thanks so much for the work that you do.
